Rain Chances Increasing… Thursday PM Forecast Update #alwx @wvua23

Good Thursday afternoon! Our local weather turned out hot again today, with air temperatures reaching the lower to middle 90s area-wide. Heat index values have surpassed the 100 degree mark and remain above 100 as of 4pm. Expect a mild and muggy evening, due to the higher dewpoints. There could be a stray shower or storm before sunset, but most of us will miss the rain.

By Friday, we’ll see an uptick in the number of scattered showers and storms. The higher rain chance will be across east Alabama, with storms more scattered over west Alabama. The best chance of a few passing downpours will occur during the afternoon and evening hours.

The weekend will feature an even higher number of scattered storms. I don’t expect an all day rain, but there is a better chance of dealing with a pop up storm. There is some evidence a surface front will bring a good chance of showers and storms Tuesday of next week. Rain amounts will vary drastically, but most spots should pick up between 1 and 2 inches over the next 5 days. Temperatures will drop back into the 80s this weekend and early next week.

Drier air may try to slip in here by Tuesday night and Wednesday of next week. This may even include cooler overnight temperatures.
