Cooler for Now… Warmer Tomorrow Afternoon and this Weekend… Tuesday PM Forecast Update #alwx @wvua23

UntitledGood Tuesday afternoon! Pretty much on target, we dealt with a round of rain and storms this morning, quickly ending from west to east by late morning. There were some reports of damaging wind gusts here and there across west and central Alabama, with the tornado reports happening well south of our area in south Alabama.

Temperatures are a bit cooler today and we’ll fall into the lower 40s, with some 30s north of I-20 tonight. Look for a return of sunshine on Wednesday, with a high in the upper 60s to lower 70s. 70s will be more likely over west Alabama to the south of Tuscaloosa.

70s return area-wide on Thursday and Friday, under a partly cloudy to mostly sunny sky. Models keep our area mostly dry through the weekend, with only a small chance of an isolated shower or storm over the weekend. I expect a better chance of showers and some storms on Monday.

Rain/Storms Tuesday, Nice by Mid-Week… Monday PM Forecast Update #alwx @wvua23

Untitled

Good Monday afternoon! Today turned out to be another nice spring day across the state, with many areas reaching into the upper 70s. Clouds are increasing this afternoon and this process will continue tonight, as a surface low approaches from the west.

Rain will arrive early Tuesday morning over west Alabama, then spread east through the morning and early afternoon. There is a low end severe risk for areas generally south of I-20, with the main risk being damaging winds. A brief tornado can’t be ruled out over southern portions of Alabama, mainly along and south of HWY 80. Temperatures will remain in the 60s all day for northern and central Alabama.

Tuesday night, we’ll fall into the lower 40s, with some 30s north of I-20. Look for a return of sunshine on Wednesday, with a high in the upper 60s.

70s return on Thursday and Friday, under a partly cloudy to mostly sunny sky. Models keep our area mostly dry through the weekend, with only a small chance of an isolated shower or storm over the weekend.

Mild Temperatures This Week. Storms Return Tuesday. Sunday forecast update 9pm #alwx @wvua23

7 Day -10PM SHOWWe saw a nice and mild day today in Alabama after storms from last night and early this morning pushed off to the east.  Temperatures behind the cold front that brought those showers were much cooler. Instead of the mid to upper 80s like the last few days, highs only reached into the upper 70s. Still well above our normal average of 72.

Tonight will be pleasant and cool in the mid 50s. Tomorrow will be another dry day with just a little more cloud cover than we saw today. Highs will be in the mid 70s.

Our next storm system moves in Monday night into Tuesday. A frontal system associated with low pressure will move through Alabama Tuesday and give us the chance for strong to severe storms. The SPC has issued a 2/5 risk for more southern AL and a 1/5 risk for portions of central AL. However, where this low pressure is located when it moves in will determine how far north the severe threat exist. The impacts look to include strong damaging winds, hail, and a brief isolated tornado can’t be ruled out.

After the storms move through sunshine returns back for your Wednesday and Thursday!

Showers and Storms Tonight. Severe Risk Breakdown. Saturday 8pm #alwx @wvua23

7 Day -10PM SHOWHappy Saturday everyone! It was a gorgeous day today with RECORD BREAKING highs for the day in Tuscaloosa (86), Anniston, and Montgomery. Tonight clouds are starting to build in ahead of our next front bring strong to severe storms for some of us in central Alabama overnight.

The greatest chance for strong to severe storms begins in our northwest counties like Marion, Winston, and Lamar counties who are predicted at a 2/5 risk. Cullman, Walker, Tuscaloosa, Pickens and NW Jefferson county are under a 1/5 risk. The risks are the same for all of NW Alabama and include strong damaging winds greater than 60mph, hail, as well as a brief tornado. This is NOT an outbreak type of event. Severe storms will be isolated if they develop. If there is a warning issued tonight we will be live on TV as well as online to cover any storms.

The timing of the system seems to be from 11pm to 4am. With an overnight system be sure to have the weather radios turned on before bed or have several other ways to get weather alerts while you are asleep.

None the less, all of central Alabama is likely to hear some rumbles of thunder and see lightning tonight. Storms will be sweep to the east by Sunday morning and a few straggling showers may linger into your morning Sunday. Conditions will dry out by the afternoon and we will be cooler behind these storms with highs only reaching into the mid to upper 70s.

Some scattered showers are possible Monday as well as a front stalls to our south and begins to makes its way north over us on Tuesday. Widespread showers are expected Tuesday and another round of strong to severe storms is possible on Tuesday. Right now we have roughly a 1/5 risk for severe storm development but we will watch this system closely over the next few days and update you on changes.

Mid week is settling down and sunshine returns for your Wednesday and Thursday with more seasonal temperatures returning.
