At 11:15pm, Severe Weather Risk Ending… #alwx @wvua23

DMA_640 (6).gif

Good Thursday night! As we approach midnight, the risk of severe weather appears to be ending rapidly for our area. A few strong storms are possible over the next couple of hours south of I-20, but I don’t expect a tornado risk for the rest of tonight. Storms across west Alabama are elevated and not rooted at the surface. This means, while some downpours with thunder are possible between now and 3am, tornadoes are not expected. Rain amounts will continue to add up for areas south of I-20 over the next few hours, and this could lead to additional flooding.

The map below shows where all of our west and central Alabama counties have been dropped from the tornado watch. A flash flood watch remains through Friday night.

A few showers are possible on Friday….

Severe Weather Threat Shifting…Update 10:20 p.m. #alwx #wvua23

DMA_640.gif

Storms and showers are pushing out of west Alabama now, while portions of southeastern central Alabama are still under the threat for severe weather, including:strong winds, hail, and possibly a spin up tornado. Storms will continue to track in a southeastern direction. Tornado watches for parts of central Alabama are still in effect, but they will come to an end by 4 a.m., tomorrow morning. Areas still in the location for severe weather need to remain weather alert over night!

Tornado Warning for Blount and Jefferson Counties Over…10 p.m. Update #alwx #wvua23

regional_temp_640.JPG

The tornado warning for the very short lived, but tightly wrapped tornado warning for Jefferson and Blount Counties has ended. Currently storms for west Alabama are beginning to come to an end. We will continue to watch storms as they track from west to east across central Alabama. The tornado watch, highlighted in yellow, will be over for the state by 4 a.m. tomorrow morning. There is still the opportunity with these storms to produce tornadoes so stay weather aware overnight tonight, especially in the south eastern portions of the state. We will continue to keep an eye on things throughout the night.
