One Last Day of Sunshine Before Rain Returns to the Forecast…Saturday Forecast Update #alwx @wvua23

Sevenday_640 (2)Good Saturday evening! Today was another picture-perfect day weather wise across the coverage area as highs soared into the mid 60s and even the upper 60s in many parts of Central Alabama. As we go into the late evening and overnight hours, expect dry conditions to continue and overnight lows to be falling into the upper 30s and low 40s.

On Sunday, expect much of the same weather story as a surface high pressure moves over the region and keeps us dry. Temperatures will be reaching the upper 60s and low 70s and overnight lows will be in the low to mid 50s. Clouds will be increasing though during the late evening and overnight hours in front of our next big weather maker, so enjoy this last day of sunshine.

As we start the next work week, unfortunately rain will be back. Expect widespread moderate to heavy showers on Monday and into Wednesday. These will likely be all-day rain events, so be sure and keep the umbrella close by. The biggest threat associated with this event is going to flooding as possible rain amounts could top five inches by the end of the week. However, we will continue to monitor the risk for severe storms as we gain higher confidence with multiple model runs.

By Thursday, much of the rain will begin tapering off and clouds will begin clearing, so plan on nice weather to return and continue into the weekend. Highs will be reaching the mid to upper 60s with lows in the 40s each day.

Rain Tonight and Tomorrow…Dry and Cooler Weather Ahead. Sunday Forecast Update #alwx @wvua23

Sevenday_640 (1)Good Sunday evening! Almost all of the coverage area has remained dry today, except for a few sprinkles here and there as cloud cover has increased due to the next system moving through the region. Expect heavier showers to be moving in by around midnight and into the early morning hours. Overnight lows will be dropping into the upper 40s.

This rainfall will continue into Monday as we start the next work week, so plan on getting the rain gear ready. There will be no organized severe storms expected, but heavier pockets of rain during the late afternoon and evening hours could cause some persisting flooding issues across some areas of Central Alabama. Highs will be reaching the lower 60s and overnight lows will be falling into the low 50s and upper 40s again.

The good news is that this rain will quickly exit the area as we go into Tuesday. A few early morning showers could be possible as you head out the door, but this will taper off by around 8 a.m. Skies will retain a good bit of cloud cover and highs will be even warmer as they will reach the mid 60s. However, this will all change come Wednesday when a cold front will bring a big drop in temperatures. Highs will likely struggle to make it to the low 50s. In addition, some shower activity could be associated with this incoming front, but at this time models show isolated to very few showers.

On Thursday and Friday, sunshine will finally make its way back in the forecast, but it is going to be cold. Overnight lows will be in the lower 30s and even upper 20s, so be sure and grab an extra layer. Heading into the weekend on Saturday, we could see a few minimal showers as another disturbance passes through the area, but at this time it is far too early to have a high confidence. Expect highs on Sunday to be in the mid to upper 50s.

Rain Returns to the Forecast…Saturday Forecast Update #alwx @wvua23

Sevenday_640 (1)Good Saturday evening! Today was another dry and pleasant day across the coverage area as a high pressure has continued to dominate the forecast. Highs reached the upper 50s and even the lower 60s over much of Central Alabama this afternoon and currently temperatures are in the low 50s and upper 40s. Expect the rest of today to remain dry and temperatures will continue to drop as we go in the latter parts of the evening. Overnight lows will be in the mid 30s and skies will be partly cloudy.

On Sunday, expect much of the same weather story for the majority of the day. Temperatures will be topping out in the upper 50s and low 60s, and conditions will be relatively dry. However, clouds will begin increasing throughout the day ahead of the next system moving through the region, which will likely bring showers and rain during the late evening and overnight hours. Plan on widespread rain to continue into Monday, so it would be a good idea to keep the umbrella close by.

After a case of what I like to call the “Monday Blues,” the rain will begin tapering off on Tuesday. A few early morning showers could be possible, but expect the rest of the day to stay relatively dry. Highs will be reaching the lower to mid 60s and overnight lows will be a bit warmer in the lower 50s.

Unfortunately, rain will creep its way back into the forecast on Wednesday, but this activity looks to be rather scattered. Expect the northern half of the state to see the highest chance for showers, while the southern half looks to be drier. Highs will be a little cooler as cold air reenters the region, so plan on bundling up. Overnight lows will be dropping into the lower 40s.

On Thursday and into the weekend, sunshine will return. Expect highs to still remain rather chilly as we struggle to reach the lower 50s on Thursday, but we will gradually warm back up into the mid and upper 50s on Friday and Saturday. Models do suggest a small chance for moisture to return on Friday, but at this time confidence is rather low.

One Last Day of Sunshine Before Clouds Return! Friday Forecast update 4pm @wvua23 #alwx

7 Day -10PM SHOWHappy Friday! A cold day today with highs this afternoon only reaching into the upper 40s. Fortunately plenty of sunshine for the day today and tonight will remain dry and clear as well with another cold night in store in the upper 20s!!

Enjoy the start of your weekend tomorrow with more sunny skies for your afternoon as high pressure sits over us and high temperatures reaching into the upper 50s. Clouds will start to build in Saturday night into Sunday with partly sunny skies in the morning and mostly cloudy skies into the afternoon. We will stay mostly dry on Sunday with rain moving into the state Sunday night into Monday as a warm front inches closer to the state.

By Monday highs will move into the mid 60s as southerly flow returns bringing us some warmer, moist air. After the rain clears Monday night so will the clouds and Tuesday will be an awesome day with highs in the mid 60s and sunny skies! There is a chance for a few isolated showers come Wednesday but not a washout by any means. Lows Wednesday into Thursday drop down close to freezing!

Rain Moving Out! Sunny Friday/Saturday… Thursday PM Forecast Update #alwx @wvua23

UntitledGood Thursday afternoon! It has been a wet couple of days to say the least here in the southeast! At 3:30pm, rain is coming to an end quickly across the area, as drier air begins to take over for a few days. Expect a cold night, with lower 30s along I-20, with some upper 20s possible to the north of Tuscaloosa and Birmingham.

Skies will be sunny on Friday and Saturday. Temperatures will remain cool Friday afternoon, with a high in the lower 50s. We will warm into the upper 50s on Saturday, after we begin Saturday morning in the upper 20s.

Clouds increase late Sunday, with perhaps a stray shower after sunset, but the best chance of rain holds off until after midnight. We’ll deal with occasional showers on Monday. I don’t expect an overly heavy rain event for Monday, as this system appears to be more limiting on uplift and moisture. Highs will reach the middle to upper 60s on Monday.

Next cold front arrives Tuesday night of next week, which will send some pretty chilly weather our way. After a chilly middle to end of next week, I expect a slow warming trend by late next weekend.
