Mostly Dry Weekend… Warm Monday… Snow Tuesday… Friday PM Forecast Update #alwx @wvua23

7 Day Forecast - Offset Lows - PM.png

Good Friday afternoon! Our local weather started off cold this morning, but many areas made it into the upper 40s to near 50 this afternoon. Expect a cold night tonight, as temperatures drop into the upper 20s.

This weekend will feature a mix of sun and clouds, with temperatures reaching the lower 50s on Saturday and upper 50s on Sunday. I can’t rule out a stray weekend shower, but the rain chance is very low. Monday, we’ll approach the lower 60s with lots of sunshine.

A deep upper air trough will send an Arctic front into Alabama on Tuesday. Moisture is expected to get pulled into and over the front, with light rain approaching the area before sunrise Tuesday. By early Tuesday morning, light rain will quickly change to light snow from northwest to southeast as deep cold air takes over the area. This may be a setup where snow flakes will be flying into deep south Alabama before the event ends. It appears there will  be about a 5 hour window where we could see snow flakes in our area. There is a fair chance of a light snow accumulation near and north of I-20, and there could be travel issues as well. While I don’t expect a major snow event at this time, everyone needs to pay attention to forecast changes this weekend incase the risk of snow increases or decreases. Over the weekend, we’ll have a good idea of snow accumulation areas and exact impacts.

Temperatures will drop below freezing Tuesday morning and remain below freezing until midday on Wednesday.
