Showers Tonight… Warmer Friday… Thursday Forecast Update – 4pm #alwx @wvua23

Good Thursday afternoon! Skies have remained mostly cloudy to cloudy all day today, as a weak surface low and warm front tracks across the area. Uplift ahead of the warm front has allowed the clouds to become widespread, however, a weak secondary surface low over the northern Gulf is preventing us from getting a soaking rain in our part of the state this evening and tonight. Most of you will get a little light rain this evening and tonight, but rain amounts will remain less than 1/4th an inch. As the warm front moves northeast of the area, expect temperatures to modify into the 60s on Friday and Saturday.

A stronger surface low and associated cold front will track across the area on Saturday, bringing a good chance of a soaking rain and some thunder. I don’t expect severe weather with this system, but some downpours could be heavy. Rain amounts are expected to approach 1/2 an inch, so flooding is not forecasted on Saturday.

Much colder air will take over on Sunday and Monday, with highs in the 40s and lows in the 20s. Temperatures will remain cool for much of next week, with highs near 50 along and south of I-20 on Tuesday through Thursday, with 40s for highs north of I-20.
