Storms Ahead, Then Much Cooler! Wednesday Forecast Update – 3:30pm #alwx

Sevenday_640

Good Wednesday afternoon! Our local weather has turned out very warm for the first day of October, with temperatures reaching the upper 80s to near 90 in many spots. With a mostly sunny sky and upper level ridging overhead, temperatures had no problem warming quickly. Temperatures will gradually drop into the 60s again tonight, with a partly cloudy sky. The ridge will move east of the area tonight and during the day tomorrow, as a deep trough develops and moves our way. This will mark the beginning of some big changes ahead…

Clouds will gradually increase on Thursday, with the risk of a few afternoon storms, especially over west Alabama. If you get a storm in your area, it won’t last long, as they will be scattered and hit or miss. Highs will reach the upper 80s on Thursday. As the cold front moves into the area early on Friday, expect a round of showers and storms to pass through the state. Some of the storms Friday morning could be rather strong, especially along or northwest of I-20. The risk of organized severe weather is low at this time, but we will keep an eye on trends. Rain totals will approach 1″ in the stronger storms, while others won’t get as much. Storms will gradually exit the area Friday afternoon and evening from west to east.

Much cooler air will take over Friday night, with lows in the upper 40s along and north of I-20. Highs will struggle to reach the lower 70s on Saturday, despite lots of sunshine. Temperatures north of I-20 will likely stay in the 60s all day! We can expect temperatures to drop into the middle 40s Saturday night for much of the area, under a clear sky. We’ll gradually begin a warming trend again early next week.

High school football Friday night will be iffy for some areas, especially in east Alabama, as we may still have a few storms in the area. There’s a fair chance that west Alabama will dry out in time for the local games. If you’re planning on going to a game Friday night, keep checking back with an update on the weather to be safe.

Alabama takes on Ole Miss in Oxford Saturday afternoon, with a 2:30pm kickoff. Temperatures will start off at kickoff near 70, then drop into the middle 60s at the end of the game. Expect sunny skies for that game. Auburn plays LSU in Auburn on Saturday, with a 6pm kickoff. Expect temperatures to start off in the lower 60s at kickoff, then fall into the upper 50s at the end of the game, under a clear sky.

The tropics are quiet…
