Friday Afternoon Forecast Discussion – 4:15 PM Update

A good Friday to you! It’s been very nice today, with a good supply of sunshine and mild temperatures. Highs have settled off in the lower 80s area-wide today. The wind has increased today due to a strong high pressure cell northeast of Alabama. The wind is bringing a slightly cooler airmass southwest, along the east side of the Appalachian Mountains and into east Alabama. Temperatures are in the middle to upper 70s east of Interstate 65. The cooler air will modify before reaching Tuscaloosa through the weekend. Expect temperatures to remain very consistent through Sunday and Monday.

Temperatures will remain mild through the evening hours, so if you have plans to any of the many events happening, look for pleasant conditions. It will start to feel a little chilly after 9pm, so a long sleeve won’t be a bad idea well after sunset. Winds will go calm after sunset. The pep rally and bon fire is happening on UA campus tonight. Look for a nice evening for that. Temperatures will fall to 74 at 7pm and 67 at 10pm, under a clear sky. I’ll be out at the West Alabama State Fair again tonight after the 6pm newscast, so be sure to stop by to say hello.

Alabama’s homecoming is looking great! It will be a little warm, with lower 80s for highs on Saturday. The east breeze will make it feel a little more comfortable on Saturday and Sunday. Alabama plays Vanderbilt at 6pm on Saturday, with lots of sun expected. Skies remain clear after sunset, as temperatures fall into the upper 60s at the end of the game. Auburn plays Arkansas at 6pm in Fayetteville. Expect very similar conditions there as well, with upper 70s to start off the game and temps falling into the upper 60s at the end of the game.

A tropical low will bring a few isolated showers to the area on Monday through Wednesday. Don’t look for much rain out of this system, as the area of low pressure looks to stay east of Alabama. This will keep the heavy rain well to our east. Highs will remain in the lower 80s with a mix of sun and clouds. Don’t expect a washout by any means…
