Homecoming Week at UA… Forecast Update – 4:30 PM Tuesday

This week is homecoming for the University of Alabama, and the weather couldn’t be more perfect. You can scroll down for a detailed forecast as well, but I want to focus on Homecoming day in this update…

Saturday will be a busy day for many folks, with tailgating, the homecoming parade and the game as well. If you can’t watch the parade in person, you can watch the entire parade right here on WVUA-TV. Lynn Brooks, along with special guest and co-host, Terry Saban will broadcast the parade starting at 11:30am. Look for WVUA or WUOA on your programming to watch the show. The good news is that the weather will be perfect! Bright sun and warm temperatures can be expected all day on Saturday. It will start off rather cool Saturday morning, with lower 50s likely. Temperatures will warm into the upper 70s to lower 80s after lunch. Just like today’s weather, temperatures will drop off quickly after sunset, so take a long sleeve or light jacket with you if you’re going to be out and about after dark.

Alabama takes on Vanderbilt at 6pm on Saturday. Temperatures will start off the game in the middle 70s. Middle to upper 60s are likely to wrap up the game, under a clear sky.

Don’t forget to come out to the West Alabama State Fair this week. The event continues today and lasts through the rest of the week. I’ll be every day this week between 6pm and 9pm. I hope you’ll come out and say hello. The weather is looking great for the event, with lots of sun. Temperatures will get fairly chilly during the evening hours, so make sure you dress for cooler air. This forecast will hold true through the rest of this week.

Tuesday Afternoon Forecast Discussion – 3:50 PM

A good Tuesday to you! Look for some nice weather to continue for the next few days, with a gradual warming trend. Afternoons will feature lower to middle 80 degree readings through the weekend and early next week. Lows will remain rather chilly each night, but temperatures will warm into the lower 50s by Wednesday night, so that won’t be all that cold.

An area of high pressure is keeping is very nice at the moment, with blue skies and calm winds. The high pressure cell will shift east and northeast over the coming days, so some changes will occur as a result. Once the high strengthens and gets established over the northeast, a cool air wedge, or backdoor cold front as we often call it, will move in from the east. Since cool air is more dense than warm air, cool air likes to spread along the surface. The surface winds will be out of the east and northeast along much of the east coast. As a result, the cool air near the surface will run into the Appalachian Mountains and become trapped. The only other direction for the cool air to go is southwest. It should reach east Alabama by Saturday, which will likely bring some extra clouds and falling temperatures for areas east of I-65. Skies will remain sunny in west Alabama, but temperatures will gradually cool into the lower 80s for highs over the weekend and early next week. Look for highs in the 70s in east Alabama during that time.

With a strong high pressure over the northeast and an old front over the southwest Atlantic and southern Gulf, this will be a favorable setup for a developing tropical system. Pressure falls tend to occur over the Bahamas or southern Gulf in that setup. This may be enough to kick off the development of a tropical storm. Some data is hinting at this happening. We’ll have to watch it close because the water temperatures are still very warm. We have lots of time to watch it. The time frame we’re looking at is early to middle portion of next week. Lots can change between now and then, so be sure to stay tuned.

Football forecast is soon to come this evening…
