Mostly Dry Start to the Weekend… Scattered Storms Return Sunday… – Friday Update 5pm

Good Friday afternoon! We can expect a good supply of sunshine for the rest of our Friday. Scattered storms have developed near and south of Montgomery, but there is little to no risk of rain for our west and central Alabama counties through Saturday. A weak cold front has stalled out over south Alabama, and the best chance of rain will remain south of that boundary until more changes happen on Sunday.

Temperatures will fall quickly this evening, due to the dry air. Look for lower 80s by 7pm and middle 70s during the 10pm hour. Skies will remain mostly clear through the evening and overnight hours. If you have plans outdoors on Saturday, expect a nice summer day. A light north breeze will allow dry air to continue to filter into the state. Highs will reach the upper 80s on Saturday. The tropical wave, once associated with Chantal, will move into the southeast on Sunday and Monday. This will bring the risk of scattered showers and storms on Sunday and Monday. I don’t expect an all day rain, but have the rain gear handy. Highs will remain in the upper 80s, with lows in the lower 70s.

A summer ridge will build into the area on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. This will allow temperatures to approach the lower 90s. I can’t rule out a stray afternoon storm or two, but this will be the typical summer downpours. Most areas will stay dry Tuesday through Thursday of next week.
