Rain Is Ending…Cool Air Is Back… Wednesday Update – 2:45pm

Warnings_59

Good Wednesday afternoon! As of 2:45pm, all severe weather issues were in the state of Georgia; in-fact, things have been pretty quiet over the past several hours across all of west and central Alabama. While it has rained a lot this morning, the severe weather issues didn’t last long early this morning. All we’re left with this afternoon is a cool rain across the eastern half of Alabama.

As of 2:45pm, rain has ended for the most part across much of west Alabama. A little drizzle is possible through 4pm in west Alabama, but that won’t amount to much at all. Areas near and east of I-65 will see the steady rain end a little later this afternoon. The back edge of the rain should work into Georgia by 4 or 5pm.

I’ll admit, I didn’t expect this much rain across west and central Alabama. The rain moved through slower than expected, the reason we got a big soaking. While there were a few flash flooding issues, I haven’t heard of anything major in terms of flooding at this time.

As of severe weather issues from this morning, it sure seems like much of west and central Alabama was spared any major issues. That being said, there was significant wind damage reported across parts of Fayette, Walker and Winston County. It was the classic winter time system, where a little more instability would have caused a major problem across all of our area. Fortunately, instability was lacking a bit, which caused issues to be more isolated. We had several tornado warnings, but I have not heard of any confirmed reports of a tornado touchdown in our area at this time.

Check out this video from the Adairsville, Georgia area. Notice how a little more instability can turn into a bad situation…
