Nice Weekend, Warm Next Week… Friday Forecast Update – 4:45pm

Sevenday_640

Good Friday afternoon! It turned out to be a really nice weather day across central and west Alabama, with highs in the 60s. Some areas south of I-20 reached the lower 70s. Our forecast will include some quick changes over the next few days, as a taste of cooler air moves in and then much warmer weather.

If you have plans outdoors this evening, expect a mostly cloudy sky, with the risk of a passing shower or two. There’s not much rain along the cold front, so don’t expect anything heavy to develop this afternoon, evening or tonight. Any rain that falls at your house will be light. The cold front will move south of I-20 by 8pm and south of HWY 80 after midnight. Cooler and drier air will move into our area from the north through the overnight hours. Temperatures will reach the middle to upper 30s north of I-20 tonight and lower 40s south of I-20.

Skies remain partly cloudy to partly sunny on Saturday, with a high in the upper 50s to around 60. Areas north of I-20 will struggle to reach the middle 50s for highs. As a warm front backs northward across our state, we can expect a warming trend to take over on Sunday. Highs will reach the lower to middle 60s on Sunday and lower 70s on Monday. Skies remain partly sunny through early next week.

Some ridging takes over early next week, so we can expect a partly cloudy sky and mild conditions. As moisture builds into Alabama on Tuesday, a stray shower or two can’t be ruled out. A better chance of rain and storms are expected on Wednesday, due to a strong cold front. Some storms could grow strong to severe, depending on the setup. Forecast models are still iffy on the track of the surface low and upper air trough, so stay tuned for updates. A shot of cooler air will then take over on Thursday and Friday.
