Sunday Evening Weather Update – 8:25PM

A good Sunday to you! Our weather started off rather mild across the state, but quickly got cold this morning. Temperatures continue to fall across the sate, with many of us are in the upper 30s. As precipitation moves into the state this evening and temperatures fall, rain showers are changing to snow showers. We are now getting numerous reports of mixed precipitation and even all snow in parts of northwest Alabama. Much of central Mississippi is experiencing light snow. This will continue to move in and we’ll see light snow at times through early tomorrow morning. Due to the warm surface, we don’t expect anything to stick. There could be a quick dusting for areas north of Tuscaloosa by daybreak, but there will not be any problems on the roads. Temperatures remain above freezing tonight, and temperature rise into the 40s by mid morning tomorrow, so any snow left around with change to rain showers.

Monday continues cold and cloudy, with a few showers through the afternoon. We begin a dramatic warm-up on Tuesday as sunny weather returns. Highs could reach 70 on Tuesday and 74 on Wednesday. Lots of sun through Thursday, but clouds gradually increase late on Thursday. Showers and storms are possible on Friday, but we’ll keep temperatures mild. Highs continue in the 70s through the weekend, with another round of storms on Sunday. Be sure to join me tonight at 10 PM for weather on WVUA-TV.

Have a great day!

Winter Weather Tonight… Is it really spring? – 1:29 PM

…EARLY SPRING SEASON SNOW POSSIBLE TONIGHT AND MONDAY MORNING…

A DEEP AND STRENGTHENING LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM WILL MOVE ACROSS THE NORTHERN HALF OF ALABAMA TONIGHT. A STRONG COLD FRONT AHEAD OF THE LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM WILL SPREAD MUCH COLDER AIR ACROSS CENTRAL ALABAMA SUNDAY AFTERNOON. AS THE UPPER LOW APPROACHES ALABAMA…THE COLD AIR ALOFT WILL DEEPEN AND EXTEND CLOSER TO THE SURFACE…
ALLOWING LIGHT RAIN TO BECOME MIXED WITH SNOW AS EARLY 7 PM ACROSS WEST ALABAMA. THE RAIN AND SNOW MIXTURE WILL SPREAD EASTWARD OVERNIGHT REACHING THE GEORGIA STATE LINE BY MIDNIGHT. THE MIXTURE OF RAIN AND SNOW COULD CHANGE OVER TO ALL SNOW FOR SEVERAL HOURS AFTER MIDNIGHT.

SURFACE TEMPERATURES TONIGHT WILL FALL INTO THE MIDDLE TO UPPER 30S ACROSS CENTRAL ALABAMA…SO NO TRAVEL PROBLEMS ARE EXPECTED SINCE TEMPERATURES SHOULD STAY ABOVE FREEZING. AT THIS TIME…SOME AREAS MAY EXPERIENCE A DUSTING OF SNOW AS WARM GROUND TEMPERATURES SHOULD MINIMIZE ANY ACCUMULATION.  HOWEVER…IF LATER FORECAST TRENDS INDICATE HEAVIER PRECIPITATION AMOUNTS…A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY MAY BE REQUIRED.
