Sunny and Mild Days Ahead… Monday Afternoon Forecast Update – 3:40pm

Good Monday afternoon! Our weather has turned out very nice this afternoon, with highs well below normal for an August day. Most areas have struggled to reach the middle 80s, despite lots of sun. Humidity remains rather low, due to a north breeze. With a dry airmass in place tonight, temperatures will drop quickly after sunset. Expect lows in the lower 60s for much of west and central Alabama. I wouldn’t be shocked if areas north of Birmingham reach the upper 50s before sunrise tomorrow morning.

Much of the week will be sunny and dry thanks to a high pressure northwest of the state. A dry airmass will remain in the area, due to a north flow. Expect highs to return into the lower 90s by Wednesday and Thursday, but temperatures will continue in the average range. I don’t expect any extreme heat over the next 7 days. Lows will gradually modify at night as low level moisture increases by late week and over the weekend.

A south wind will bring tropical moisture into Alabama on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. This means we’ll notice a partly cloudy sky and humid airmass. A few afternoon storms are possible, but most areas will remain rain free. Rain chances increase to 30% by Monday, as a weak surface front moves into Alabama.

Tropical Storm Fernand has died over Mexico this afternoon. The system made landfall yesterday evening and quickly weakened as it interacted with land. There is no chance of redevelopment or of this system impacting the US… Otherwise, the tropics are quiet.
