Hot Days Ahead… Isolated PM Storms… Thursday Forecast Update – 2:30pm

Good Thursday afternoon! As of 2:30pm, most of Alabama is rain free, but a few spotty storms have developed north of I-20. Look for the risk of isolated storms through 10pm tonight, but I really expect most areas to stay dry. The chance of rain stands at 30%. Skies will gradually become mostly clear later this evening or tonight, as temperatures gradually cool down a bit.

If you’re going to the West Alabama State Fair this evening, the event gets kicked off at 5pm and continues through 10pm. Our weather looks mostly dry and mild through the evening. Take the umbrella just incase a pop up storm moves over Sokol Park. Temperatures will fall into the lower 80s at 7pm and middle 70s at 10pm. If you go the the fair, be sure to say hello! I’ll be out there live at 4, 5 and 6pm.

With a deep layer of tropical moisture over Alabama, I can’t rule out a few afternoon storms each day through the weekend. The rain chance is low, and any downpours shouldn’t last more than 30 minutes in one spot. If you have a outdoor event this weekend, expect hot temperatures, with highs near 90. The risk of rain is low. We can expect a mostly sunny sky over the weekend…

Drier air will take over early next week, so most of the state will go sunny and rain free. Highs will top the 90 degree mark, with lows in the upper 60s. An isolated storm is possible after lunch each day, but 90% of Alabama will be dry.

The tropics are rather quiet, which is really rare this time of the year. The peak of the hurricane season happens in mid September. We are watching one feature in the northeastern Gulf of Mexico, but it is unlikely this system develops at this time. It’s moving west at 10 to 15mph.
