Warm Afternoons, Cool Evenings, and Dry Weather! – Sunday Evening Forecast Update 8:10 PM

Today featured a little more cloud cover than originally anticipated, and as a result, it kept temperatures from reaching the expected 90 degree mark. But, we finally had a dry weather day as expected as high pressure builds in both at the surface and aloft. These high pressure systems will take control of our weather pattern over the next several days.

The high pressure at the surface will be directly overhead tomorrow night. This should allow for maximum radiational cooling as the sky should be mainly clear. Temperatures should fall into the low 60s for most locations, but some spots in the northeastern part of the state may see the upper 50s! I’m sure no one will complain about temperatures in the 50s and 60s in the evening for late August in Alabama. The dry weather as well as the ridge aloft will help suppress our rain chances for the next several days and allow for plenty of sunshine.

Heading past the middle of the week, we begin to lose the influence of both high pressure systems, and as a result moisture will gradually begin to increase once again. Temperatures should creep into the low 90s for the end of the week with just an outside chance of a stray afternoon shower or storm especially by Friday. Otherwise, enjoy the week of dry weather!

A quick check of the tropics reveals Tropical Storm Fernand has formed over the far southwestern Gulf earlier this afternoon. This storm will work west toward the northern Mexico Coast and will pose no threat to us here in southeast in Alabama.
