Dry Weather Makes a Return – Saturday Evening Forecast Update 9 PM

Sevenday_640

We had to deal with some rather potent thunderstorms this afternoon, but the good news is that no severe weather was reported and they were only isolated in nature. But where they did form, rain amounts exceed 1″ in some locations and that occurred in a very short amount of time. If you like dry weather though, you’re going to like the next couple of days.

A ridge of high pressure will begin building in from the central Plains starting tomorrow. This will gradually allow upper heights to increase, thereby helping to suppress our rain chances over the next several days. Working in tandem with this high, a surface high pressure system will be building in from the Carolinas as well. Easterly flow associated with this feature will help keep our temperatures from getting out of hand during the afternoon. In fact, this airmass will be quite dry and with this dry airmass advecting in, temperatures during the day should have a greater range than normal. Highs in the afternoon should be around 90 but lows tonight could dip into the mid maybe low 60s. Some spots in eastern Alabama could make a run at the upper 50s! It should be noted that some of the MOS guidance for our area is suggesting lows getting to around 60 as well, so we may have to adjust those numbers down a few more degrees if models continue to suggest this.

The dry weather stays with us at least through Wednesday before the ridge of high pressure aloft begins to break down. As this happens, upper heights begin to decrease as a trough begins to approach our area. This should mean gradually increasing rain chances, only to around climatological levels though, by the end of the week and the start of the weekend. Highs may increase a touch by Thursday, but no excessive heat is in the cards.

Enjoy your Sunday!!
