Some Storms Ahead… Dry Friday… Tuesday Afternoon Forecast Update – 4:50pm

Sevenday_640

Good Tuesday afternoon! Our weather has turned out hot, with temperatures in the lower 90s. Now that moisture levels are much higher today, heat index values have reached the 100 to 105 degree range. If you are working outdoors this afternoon or evening, drink lots of water to stay hydrated. A few storms have developed across west and south Alabama, but most areas are dry. Expect a small chance of a passing shower or storm this evening and tonight. Lows will fall into the lower 70s late tonight.

As a weak cold front moves into Alabama from the northwest on Wednesday, showers and storms will become likely. It will not rain all day or night, but expect the chance of downpour for an hour or two. Not everyone will get a soaking, but some areas will get an inch. Highs will top out in the upper 80s to around 90 on Wednesday. Models are in good agreement that the front will push south of our area on Thursday and Friday. Rain chances will drop to 30% on Thursday and 10% on Friday. Most areas will stay dry on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Highs will return into the lower 90s each of these days, with lows in the lower 70s Thursday night and upper 60s Friday night.

We’ll get stuck in a rather wet pattern on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. A trough northeast of Alabama and a ridge west of Alabama will place our area under a northwest flow aloft. We will likely deal with a few storms on and off Sunday through Tuesday, but it will not rain all day or night. Expect an hour or two worth of rain at your house before the storms move past your area.

If you have a beach trip planned this weekend, expect a mixture of clouds and sunshine, with a risk of scattered storms. Rain chances stand at 40% on Friday through Sunday along the Gulf Coast. Water temperatures remain in the lower 80s…
