A Few Relative Cool Nights Ahead…Staying Dry Through Monday – Saturday Evening Forecast Update 8:40 PM

As of Saturday evening, a few showers remained on the radar across parts of west Alabama, but most areas were dry. Temperatures are actually heading for right around 70 or even a couple of degrees cooler this evening, and some patchy fog is forecast to develop especially in areas that saw rain earlier today and in areas that can get some clearing during the overnight.

As we head into Sunday, northerly winds will help filter in some drier air and accordingly we should see lots of sunshine. A departing frontal boundary may set off a few showers across the far southern part of our viewing area, mainly along and south of highway 80, but most areas will stay dry tomorrow. It looks like the dry weather will stick with us into Monday as well as a mid-level ridge axis builds in from the west. This will allow temperatures to get back into the low 90s by Monday.

By mid-week, a strong mid-level wave will pass north of our area, but this wave will likely cause some height to slightly lower in the mid-levels, which combined with a returning southerly flow at the surface, should mean at least isolated showers and storms returning to the forecast by Tuesday afternoon. A frontal boundary tries to approach from the north by Wednesday and Thursday, and this will mean a little higher coverage of afternoon storms across the area with temperatures remaining around 90.

It looks like we can decrease the rain chances slightly for the first part of the weekend, but the pesky northwest flow returns by Sunday, bringing with it higher rain chances for the end of the weekend.

A quick check of the tropics reveals that Dorian is no more, as the Hurricane Center discontinued advisories earlier this afternoon. All other areas of the Atlantic Basin remain quiet.
