Some Rain on Saturday…Dry Sunday… Friday Forecast Update – 4:30pm

Sevenday_640

Good Friday afternoon! Our weather has turned out rather nice on this Friday, with a good supply of sun and temperatures only reaching the upper 80s for highs. As of 4:30pm, high level cirrus clouds are spreading in from the northwest. This is signs of our next storm system, which is due in Alabama on Saturday. Temperatures will drop into the low 80s by 8pm and middle 70s by 10pm.

If you have outdoor plans this evening, expect skies to become mostly cloudy as the evening and overnight hours progress. I do not expect rain for this evening or much of tonight, but a few showers will become possible around daybreak Saturday morning. Rain chances will increase across west Alabama first Saturday morning, but all of central and west Alabama will deal with a good chance of scattered showers and storms through the day on Saturday. It will not rain all day or night, but have the umbrella handy at any point in the day. It looks like the heavier rain will occur south of I-20, but all of our area has the chance of a few downpours. Highs will top out in the middle to upper 80s on Saturday, due to the clouds and the risk of rain at times.

The weak cold front will slide through Alabama Saturday night, so dry air will quickly take over from the northwest. Skies will quickly clear out by Sunday morning, with mostly sunny skies through the day on Sunday. A lone shower or storm can’t be ruled out south of I-20, but most of us will stay dry. Temperatures will cool into the upper 60s by Saturday and Sunday night. Highs will reach the lower 90s on Sunday and Monday.

Tropical moisture will increase on Tuesday and Wednesday, with the risk of scattered storms making a return. Highs will continue in the lower 90s.

Good news is coming from the National Hurricane Center from Tropical Storm Dorian. Winds are dropping as the storm weakens. Dorian has now lost all deep convection near the center, which will continue to weaken the storm over the next day or two. Wind shear and dry air will prevent any additional organization; in-fact, the NHC expects Dorian to weaken to a tropical depression or open tropical wave over the weekend. The storm is moving in the general direction of the US, but it sure looks like the environment ahead of Dorian will keep it from becoming a risk to life and property… We’ll keep an eye on this system over the coming days.
