Rain Ending… More Storms Tonight and Wednesday… – Tuesday 4pm Update

Warnings_316

Good Tuesday afternoon! As of 4pm, rain is still falling near and south of I-20. The leading edge of the severe storms are now south of our area, located over Choctaw, Clarke and Monroe County. While there is still some rain and lightning across the southern half of our coverage area, the severe mess is over. This batch of rain will end over the next hour or two from north to south. Expect some fog during the overnight hours, so drive safe!

Rain totals have been very impressive across Alabama, with most spots picking up between 1 and 3 inches. There are reports of flash flooding in scattered spots. The rain is gradually ending from north to south across our area this evening, but more storms will develop and move in during the overnight hours. We’re in a very favorable northwest flow aloft. Since we’re stuck between a ridge and a trough, small disturbances continue to track across our area. I expect the chance of another complex moving through during the day on Wednesday. Much like today, any storm that develops will stand the chance of producing wind damage, intense lightning and very heavy rain. Some additional flash flooding issues are possible.

Rain chances will continue high through Wednesday, but expect drier air to take over for Thursday and Friday. Dewpoints will drop into the middle 60s, which will take the mugginess out of the air. Temperatures at night will fall into the upper 60s Thursday night. There is still a small chance of a passing shower or storm on Thursday and Friday. Skies will become partly cloudy.

An upper air disturbance will move in on Saturday and Sunday, which will increase rain chances to 30 or 40%. I don’t expect rain all day, but if you have an outdoor event over the weekend, expect the risk of a passing storm. Keeping a backup plan or umbrella handy will be a good idea over the weekend. Highs will top out in the upper 80s to lower 90s over the weekend. Skies will become partly sunny over the weekend plans.
