Summer-like Days Ahead… Tuesday Forecast Update – 5:30pm

Sevenday_640

Good Tuesday afternoon! Our weather has turned hot this afternoon, with most areas reaching the upper 80s. Some spots may touch 90 before cooling after sunset. The risk of rain is very low today, but a tiny shower or two has developed over south and southwest Alabama this evening. As sun sets, instability will drop off and the risk for a lone shower will die out. Look for lows to fall into the middle 60s tonight.

A surface high off the east coast will continue to bring us a south wind for much of the week and into the weekend. This means warm and moist air will move north into Alabama. While our weather was hot today, conditions will become very humid through the rest of the week. We can expect highs to reach the lower 90s Wednesday through Saturday, with a small chance of an isolated storm or two. Rain chances are only at 10%, so don’t expect a wash-out.

A weakening cold front will reach Alabama on Sunday, and rain chances will increase into the good range during the day Sunday. At this time, rain chances stand at 40%. I don’t expect an all day soaking rain, but scattered storms are possible at any time. Models hint at some dry air moving in on Monday and Tuesday of next week, with highs in the upper 80s to lower 90s.

We will be keeping an eye on the tropics late next week, as model data has been showing a tropical low developing in the Gulf. Since the water temperatures are only marginal for tropical development and wind shear is forecasted over the area, if anything develops late next week, it will remain weak. Most data keeps it away from Alabama and moves the low up the east coast. We’ll watch it…
