Warm and Dry Weather Ahead – Saturday Evening Forecast Update 8:30 PM

What a gorgeous Saturday we had across west Alabama with highs in the mid 80s after a chilly start! Most locations got down into the low 50s. This large swing in temperatures is thanks to a dry airmass, which is relatively uncommon for late May, but I’m sure no one is complaining about it! And if you liked today, you’ll like what the forecast shows for at least the next five days.

After a gorgeous Sunday, a subtle upper-level disturbance will move towards the area by Monday. This will not bring any rain with it, but a few more clouds are possible for your Memorial Day afternoon. Mid-level ridging becomes stronger through mid-week as a large trough develops over the western half of the country. We’ll continue with lots of sunshine for Tuesday-Thursday with highs gradually getting warmer each day, reaching the 90 degree mark by Wednesday. The cool nights will gradually warm through the week thanks to a weak southerly flow that will ultimately lead to increasing moisture and a more muggy feeling to the air each day.

This strong ridging aloft will persist into the weekend as well, with highs right around 90 and no chance of rain. The Euro and GFS models both try to send a frontal boundary our way by the end of the weekend into the start of next week. But, it’s getting into that time of year where these fronts in essence “run out of gas” and either do not make it to our area or “wash out” and sort of dissipate. At this time, I’m expecting a dry weekend but a few rain showers are possible by Monday of next week.
