Fall Begins Saturday… Higher Rain Chances Ahead… Thursday Forecast Update – 4:30pm #alwx @wvua23

Good Thursday afternoon! Today is nearly identical to yesterday’s weather. We’ve got a good supply of sunshine with very hot afternoon temperatures. At 4pm, most areas were in the middle to upper 90s. We do note Jasper made it to 102 this afternoon. Expect a gradual fall in temperatures tonight, with a low in the lower 70s.

Friday will be a hot day, but temperatures will be a good 5 to 7 degrees cooler than today. Expect a high in the lower 90s, with a better chance of scattered afternoon storms.

Over the weekend, the best chance of scattered storms will continue over northwest Alabama. The risk of rain for I-20 is at 30%, but if you live northwest of Fayette, your chance of scattered storms is higher this weekend. I do not expect an all day type of rain over northwest Alabama this weekend, but there will be a better chance of a passing downpour. Rain chances will increase by the middle of next week, as a surface front approaches from the northwest.

Models are in better agreement of cooler air coming in by the end of next week. We could see highs drop into the lower 80s, with 50s possible at night at the end of next week, but there is still some uncertainty in the airmass.  We’ll fine-tune the numbers and thoughts as we get a little closer.

The tropics have really calmed over the past few days, with no action approaching the US at this time…
