Warm Start To The Week… Severe Storms Possible Thursday… Back To Average Next Weekend… Sunday PM Forecast Update… #ALwx @wvua23

Good Sunday afternoon! Warmer weather continues to plaster our temperature map. Highs today were in the mid to upper 70s once again for another well above average day. Partly cloudy skies reigned today, allowing that sunshine to peak through and warm us up. Overnight tonight, clouds stick around, keeping us a bit warm into the overnight hours. Low temperatures tonight will struggle to get below the low 60s. Tomorrow is looking a bit cloudier to wake up to where clouds become more persistent towards midday. A few isolated showers are possible around the lunchtime hour, so if you plan to go grab some lunch midday tomorrow, make sure to bring an umbrella or a rain jacket. Those showers should move out of the area by the late afternoon with mostly sunny skies returning just before sunset. Accompanied with these conditions, there is a threat for some strong and gusty winds. A wind advisory is in effect for the entire WVUA23 viewing area from 6 AM Monday morning until 6 PM Monday evening. Winds will be sustained out of the south to southwest at around 15 to 20 miles per hour, with gusts as high as around 35 mph. These winds should die down overnight after the clouds have cleared.

Waking up Tuesday morning, lower temperatures, accompanied by lower humidity will be present, making for a lovely Tuesday. We will warm up Tuesday afternoon into the mid to upper 70s, but without the humidity, it will feel much nicer. Sunshine will be abundant by the afternoon with sunny skies in the forecast. Overnight Tuesday into Wednesday, temperatures drop into the upper 50s for morning time lows. Wednesday, the humidity returns along with increasing clouds as our next system begins to approach us from the west. High temperatures in the upper 70s to low 80s on Wednesday.

Thursday, the atmosphere is seeming to set up nicely for the threat of severe weather. The Storm Prediction Center has issued a Enhanced and a Slight Risk for all of western Alabama. Models are in agreement that the atmosphere will be primed. The chance for some strong, gusty winds, small hail, and isolated tornadoes are all on the table for this event. This event will linger into the early hours on Friday before clearing out of the region by Friday afternoon. Friday, a Slight Risk is in effect for areas east of Birmingham. These same risks are all on the table for Friday as well. It is too early to predict timing and specific impact, but we will keep a close eye on the setup and keep you updated as more information becomes available with this threat.

After the storms push out of Alabama on Friday, much nicer conditions settle in. Near average temperatures return with high temperatures in the low to mid 60s will stick around for the tail end of the week and into the weekend. Along with the nicer temperatures, the sun seems to stick around with mostly sunny skies on Saturday and Sunday.
