Highs Decrease as Rain Chances Increase This Week…Sunday Forecast Update #alwx @wvua23

Sevenday_640 (4).jpgGood Sunday evening! The dry air mass situated across much of our area helped improve comfort levels this morning quite a bit, but the afternoon still remained extremely hot. Highs today across Central Alabama continued to reach the upper 90s and even triple digits in several locations. Although today’s highs did not reach any records for today’s date, many were just three and four degrees short. As we go into the overnight hours, conditions will remain dry and temperatures will remain relatively warm with lows in the mid 70s.

Going into the new week, expect this extreme heat to linger for the first couple of days and then gradually decrease. Highs will be topping out in the low to mid 90s and will return to more seasonal levels. Even though air temperatures will be cooler, moisture levels will be on the rise so the air will begin feeling quite muggy again and heat index values will remain rather high. Heat indices are expected to reach 105 degrees, so safety precautions are still advised. Rain chances will also be returning to the forecast, so expect scattered showers and storms to be popping up during the afternoon and evening hours in the next few upcoming days.

Nearing the end of the week on Thursday, another cold front will be moving towards our area, which will increase the rain chances for the rest of week. Plan on more scattered showers and storms across the coverage area and possibly even some improvements to current drought conditions.
