Nice April Weather for Now… Storms on Thursday… Tuesday PM Forecast Update #alwx @wvua23

Good Tuesday afternoon! Our local weather started off rather cool this morning, but the April sun really warmed temperatures fast by the afternoon! Most of west Alabama as of 4pm is near 70 degrees, with upper 60s over east AL. Expect another cool night tonight, with a low in the lower 40s. Skies remain clear overnight.

Wednesday will be even warmer, with ample sunshine. Highs will reach the middle to upper 70s Wednesday afternoon. A light southeast breeze will develop by midday.

Thursday, a weakening upper air trough axis will shift into the southeast. This will bring a good chance of showers and storms to our area. There is a low end risk of a storm becoming strong to severe over west Alabama Thursday afternoon. Models are in good agreement of a cluster of storms tracking southeast across Mississippi during the day. The best instability would be southwest of our area at that point, which will limit the risk here. Models do not indicate the parameters matching up for a tornado risk on Thursday. If a storm can become severe, damaging winds would be the main issue. Even that should be isolated, if not totally remaining just southwest of our coverage area…

Friday and Saturday will feel more like late Spring. Dewpoints rise and we’ll see a mix of sun and clouds. Highs will reach the lower 80s both days. I can’t rule out a few scattered showers and storms, but most of Friday and Saturday will be dry.
