Scattered Storms Ahead… Wet Weekend! Tuesday Forecast Update – 5:30pm #alwx @wvua23

Good Tuesday afternoon! Our local weather included lots of rain at times over east Alabama, while west Alabama remained relatively dry. A few scattered showers and storms will remain possible through this evening, but coverage is gradually diminishing. Temperatures will drop into the upper 60s tonight.

A few scattered showers and storms will remain possible on Wednesday and Thursday across the area, with the best chance happening south of I-20. Highs will reach the upper 80s on Wednesday and Thursday afternoon, under a partly sunny sky.

Friday through Memorial Day Weekend, we’ve got some changes coming in terms of our local weather. A weak low will move northward across the Gulf and models are in excellent agreement of this happening. This will spread periods of rain across the central and eastern Gulf coast region beginning on Friday and lasting through the weekend. Periods of rain appear to become likely across central and west Alabama as well on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday. I do not expect this system to become a hurricane or intense tropical system. The Gulf is too cool for a powerful system and wind shear will prevent too much organization. The impacts will be essentially the same no matter what happens with the strength of the surface low. Look for a wet weekend unless something drastic changes in model data.
