Storms on Thursday… Nice Easter! Wednesday Forecast Update – 4:40pm #alwx @wvua23

Good Wednesday afternoon! Our local weather has started off mild today and has continued mild into the afternoon. At 4pm, most areas are close to 80 degrees! Expect temperatures to slowly drop into the middle 60s overnight, with showers and storms increasing across northwest Alabama after midnight.

Expect a good chance of rain and storms occasionally on Thursday, with areas west of I-65 mainly dealing with rain and thunder between sunrise and 3pm. There is a chance a few storms could become strong and perhaps an isolated severe storm or two between 10am and 3pm west of I-65. In that risk area you see on the map below, there could be an isolated strong wind gust, small hail and I can’t rule out an isolated tornado. The better chance of a strong to severe storm will be south of HWY 80 mid morning and into the afternoon on Thursday. Keep in mind, this risk will highly depend on what time the rain arrives Thursday. If the rain is at a late start and doesn’t arrive until the afternoon, the risk may increase some. If rain moves in during the early morning before the atmosphere has a chance to heat up, the risk will decrease. Lets be on alert for the chance a severe storm could develop in our area… On average, our area will pick up between 1/2″ and 1″.

Sunshine is back by the weekend, with a high in the 70s. Some areas may approach 80 by Sunday afternoon over southwest Alabama for Easter. Temperatures will remain mild into early next week.
