Few Weekend Showers Possible… Very Warm Next Week! Friday Forecast Update – 4:30pm #alwx @wvua23

7 Day Forecast - Offset Lows - PM.png

Good Friday afternoon! Right on schedule, our early afternoon cold front has reached I-20, and temperatures are dropping into the 50s behind the front. This will be a very short-lived cooler airmass, as temperatures warm back into the 60s this weekend and 80s next week. The showers along and ahead of the cold front are light and fast moving. We had a quick burst of light rain in Tuscaloosa for 15 to 20 minutes, now it’s dry and cool. Temperatures will fall into the upper 40s north of I-20 tonight, with 50s to the south.

Saturday will be a day with a mostly cloudy sky and a few passing showers. The best chance of showers will be north of I-20, where conditions could be fairly wet over the Tennessee Valley. For areas south of I-20, there could be a quick light shower or two, but widespread rain is unlikely. To be safe, keep the umbrella handy on Saturday, as a few passing showers will randomly pass through the area. A warm front will lift north on Sunday, with the risk of a few showers along the front.

Very warm air will take over by Monday and Tuesday, with widespread low 80s! A humid airmass will also accompany the warmer temperatures, so overnight lows will modify into the 60s.

Models continue to pump up the ridge over the Gulf for the middle of next week, and model data is backing off on the risk of rain on Wednesday and Thursday, as the front could stall to our west. I’ve lowered the rain chance to reflect that trend, but we’ll keep an eye on it, as any change in where the front stalls could increase or decrease our rain chance. Temperatures appear to be very mild through next weekend.
