Rain Ahead, Then Very Cold… Wednesday Forecast Update – 4:30pm #alwx @wvua23

7 Day Forecast - Offset Lows - PM.png

Good Wednesday afternoon! Our local weather is much warmer today, despite the clouds. Temperatures managed to reach the upper 60s in many areas, with southwest Alabama approaching 70 as of 4PM. Expect a cloudy sky overnight, with areas of showers and drizzle. Conditions will feel very muggy, with temperatures slowly falling into the lower 60s.

Thursday will continue mainly cloudy, with a good chance of occasional showers and drizzle. The better risk of more widespread showers will come Thursday evening into Thursday night.

Locally heavy rain will spread in sometime late Thursday night into Friday morning, with rain amounts near 1″ in many spots. Rain will move out from west to east by noon on Friday, as very cold air filters in. Temperatures will start off at 6am near 60 on Friday, falling into the upper 30s after lunch! We’ll all be below freezing by 6pm Friday. Models have trended off the look of anything wintry, with only a small chance of a few flurries Friday evening and Friday night to the north of I-20. I don’t expect anything significant, as moisture quickly moves out as the cold air moves in. With the wind, there’s not really a chance of any icy roads Friday night, as roads will dry out quickly.

It will get very cold and stay cold for several days through the weekend and into the middle portion of next week, so get ready for another cold snap.. Highs will remain in the 30s on Saturday and Sunday, especially north of I-20. Lows will fall well below freezing, with lower 20s to upper teens by Sunday morning.
