Wet Days Continue… Tuesday Forecast Update – 4:30pm #alwx @wvua23

7 Day Forecast - Offset Lows - PM.png

Good Tuesday afternoon! Our local weather remains very wet across Alabama today, as a stationary boundary remains stationary across the area and a deep layer of tropical moisture overspreads the state. Uplift from the front will continue to provide our area with occasional showers and storms. Yes, there will be breaks in the rain, but rain amounts will continue to add up, causing some flooding issues in spots. The National Weather Service has posted a flash flood watch for our area through Wednesday, and that may be extended.

Between now and the weekend, additional rain amounts of 2 to 4 inches appear likely, with some spots getting more than that. Understand, a large portion of west and central Alabama has already received 2 to 4 inches of rain since Sunday; in-fact, a few spots in west Alabama have received over 5 inches of rain since Sunday. As waves of showers and storms continue to move through, the saturated ground could lead to some flash flooding issues.

It appears the number of storms may decrease some on Friday, but I still expect a good many scattered storms in the area. The slight reduction in the number of storms will be temporary, as another surface front will slip in from the northwest over the weekend, allowing rain chances to increase again.

In the tropics, Tropical Storm Franklin is moving into the southwest Gulf. Franklin could become a hurricane before moving into Mexico well south of Brownsville. US impacts are not expected from this one…
