Wet Days Ahead… Monday Forecast Update – 4:15pm #alwx @wvua23

Good Monday afternoon! We’re in a very wet pattern for early August, as we are on the southern edge of a weak upper air trough axis. Uplift from that feature, as well as deep tropical moisture will continue to enhance the coverage of rain and storms across the area over the next 7 days. While there will be breaks in the rain, I would keep the umbrella handy at all times day or night, as there is the potential for rain to move over your area at any moment.

In terms of how much rain is expected through next Monday, totals should range from 3 to 5 inches. Understand, some of you will get more than that, with some locally heavy downpours could drop an inch or two in less than an hour. We need to keep an eye on trends over the next few days, as higher rainfall rates may lead to flash flooding.

Temperatures will remain below average for a while, with highs in the 80s through the end of the week and lows in the lower 70s.

In the tropics, we’re watching Tropical Storm Franklin in the western Caribbean. Winds are sustained at 60mph and landfall will occur tonight or early on Tuesday on the Yucatan coast. Franklin will move into the southwest Gulf on Wednesday, with a good chance of this becoming a hurricane before moving into Mexico on Thursday. No local impacts are expected from this system…
