Rain Chances Increasing by Late Weekend… Thursday Forecast Update – 4:45pm #alwx @wvua23

7 Day Forecast - Offset Lows - PM.png

Good Thursday afternoon! A few scattered storms have developed on radar, with the main coverage near Birmingham and points south and east. Given the nature of scattered storms, some areas remain hot and sunny through the evening. Storms will fade away after sunset, with temperatures dropping into the lower 70s.

A surface front will move into northwest Alabama on Friday, with a chance of scattered storms developing by afternoon. Models suggest coastal storms may help to disrupt the storms along the front and prevent widespread rain in our area. I expect a few storms to develop during the afternoon and push in from the northwest, but many areas will remain rain-free.

Models have returned to the idea that the front will move south of our area, allowing for a mostly dry Saturday. There could be a few storms pop up during the afternoon on Saturday to the south of I-20, but widespread rain is not expected. Highs will approach 90 on Saturday.

The front retreats northward on Sunday, with a good chance of scattered showers and storms developing over our area. With several small scale disturbances moving into the area early to the mid portion of next week, I expect occasional showers and storms in the area each day, with the highest probability for rain occurring during the afternoon.
