Storms on Friday… Nice Weekend Ahead… Thursday Forecast Update – 4:25pm #alwx @wvua23

Good Thursday afternoon! Our local weather has turned out hot again this afternoon, with only a few isolated storms on radar. Temperatures have warmed well into the 90s, with a heat index between 100 and 105 for many areas. Expect a mild evening, with overnight temperatures in the middle 70s. Rain is unlikely during the overnight hours, but clouds will likely increase before sunrise.

Friday is looking stormy at times, with the potential for several waves of rain and storms to move over the state. Models suggest a cluster of storms could impact areas along and north of I-20 during the morning hours, with a second round developing during the afternoon and evening hours.

A Flash Flood Watch has been posted for all the counties in Green, or basically everyone near and north of I-20. This includes Pickens, Tuscaloosa, Bibb, Shelby, Talladega, Clay, Lamar, Fayette, Walker, Jefferson, St. Clair, Calhoun, Etowah, Cherokee, Blount, Cullman, Winston and Marion County for Friday and Friday night.

Due to the recent rains this summer, and the very high moisture content available for storms, there is a risk of flash flooding in some areas Friday and Friday night. Keep in mind, not everyone will have flooding, but where the rains do come down, it won’t take much to cause problems. Be alert during the day on Friday and Friday night, as storms work through the area, as there will be the potential for localized flooding…

By Saturday, a cold front will be slipping southward across the state, with less humid air taking over the entire area by Saturday evening and Saturday night. Expect plenty of sunshine this weekend, with only isolated showers and storms on Saturday, mainly to the south of I-20. I don’t expect any storms on Sunday. Temperatures Saturday night and Sunday night will dip into the 60s!
