Rain Chances Increasing… Thursday Forecast Update – 4:30pm #alwx @wvua23

7 Day Forecast - Offset Lows - PM.png

Good Thursday afternoon! It has been a dangerously hot day across Alabama, with air temperatures in the middle 90s. Yes, the air temperatures could get much higher this time of the year, but the moisture is what’s adding to the dangerous conditions. Heat index is in the 100 to 107 degree range over west Alabama as of 4:30pm, but scattered storms in east Alabama are keeping the heat down a bit there. Temperatures will remain mild and conditions will feel very muggy through tonight. Expect a low in the middle 70s.

The upper air ridge will begin to weaken on Friday, and that will allow for a slightly better coverage of scattered afternoon and evening storms. It will not rain everywhere, but don’t be surprised if you get a passing downpour. Highs will top out in the low to mid 90s on Friday.

A weak upper air trough will dig across the eastern US over the weekend, which will help to enhance rain chances across west and central Alabama. While this will not be a weekend washout, there is a higher chance of getting a passing storm or two, especially during the afternoon. Rain chances will increase a bit more Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. Again, this will be the scattered type of storms, so not an all day or night rain.
