Hot Days Ahead! Monday Forecast Update – 4:35pm #alwx @wvua23

7 Day Forecast - Offset Lows - PM.png

Good Monday afternoon! As of 4:30pm, a few scattered showers and storms continue to move west or southwest across the state. Not everyone will get rain this afternoon or evening, but where storms do develop, they will drop heavy rain in a short period of time. Expect storms to fade away after sunset, with conditions becoming very muggy tonight.

Upper level ridging will build into the area on Tuesday and continue nearby through Saturday. With high dewpoints and strong ridging over the area, I expect a dangerous combination of heat and humidity. This will be the hottest stretch so far this summer, with afternoon highs in the middle to upper 90s. Heat index will reach 105 in many areas beginning on Wednesday and lasting through Saturday. Rain chances will only remain at 10% through the end of the week, with only a small chance of an isolated shower or storm during the afternoon.

Sunday and Monday, there is evidence of an approaching upper air trough. This will help to increase rain chances and reduce the heat a tad.
