At 11:20am Friday, we’re watching a line of very heavy rain and storms approach west Alabama. These storms are causing serious flash flooding issues as they work towards west Alabama. The Storm Prediction Center will be posting a tornado watch shortly for west and central Alabama. The line will have a few isolated tornadoes possible, as well as flash flooding issues.

The time frame…

For Hamilton to Vernon to Reform area (extreme west and northwest Alabama), storms will impact you beginning at noon and lasting through the early afternoon.

Cullman to Birmingham to Tuscaloosa to Greensboro to Livingston (the rest of west and central Alabama), storms will impact you between 2pm and 5pm.

Gadsden, Anniston, Rockford, Clanton areas (eastern portions of Alabama), storms will impact you between 4pm and 8pm.

Again, everyone is going to be in a risk of very heavy rain, gusty winds and perhaps a few isolated spin-up tornadoes. As is typical with a landfalling tropical system, any tornado that develops will be short lived and hard to warn. Just be aware into the afternoon hours of the possibility of a quick tornado warning, and be ready to take action.
