Cool Tonight… Hot Days Return… Thursday Forecast Update – 4:30pm #alwx @wvua23

Good Thursday afternoon! It has turned out to be a beautiful late May day, with plenty of sunshine and pleasant conditions. Highs have struggled to reach the mid 70s in many areas this afternoon, which is well below average for late May. Expect a cool and clear night tonight, with a low in the mid 50s.

High pressure nearby will keep our area sunny on Friday, with highs rebounding into the upper 80s. The upper air trough will quickly pull away on Friday, really allowing for a fast warm-up. As a south wind develops over the weekend, muggy air will also return. Look for a small chance of a stray afternoon shower or storm on Saturday but rain is unlikely to begin Memorial Day Weekend.

Scattered storms will be possible late in the evening on Sunday to the north of I-20, but it appears that the higher rain chance will come Sunday night and into the day on Monday. Scattered showers and storms will be likely at times on Memorial Day. I do not expect an all day rain, but there may be an hour or two worth of rain at your house. Highs will remain in the 80s on Monday and Tuesday.
