Storms on Friday… Nice Mother’s Day! Thursday Forecast Update – 4:30pm #alwx @wvua23

Good Thursday afternoon! Our local weather is beginning to feel much more muggy, as dewpoints rise. Clouds have been on an increase today, but the rain remains well to our west. Expect dry conditions through tonight, with a low in the middle 60s.

As the weak surface low and cold front approach Alabama from the west on Friday, look for periods of showers and storms to enter the state, especially after lunch. I do not expect an all day rain, but there could be several waves of rain and thunder during the afternoon and evening hours. Storms gradually diminish Friday night, with only a few showers lingering into early Saturday morning. Rain amounts will vary from 0.50″ to 1″. Severe weather is not expected, but a few storms may be intense with lots of lightning and brief heavy rain.

The airmass becomes a little more refreshing on Saturday and Sunday, with upper 70s to low 80s during the afternoon on Saturday, with low humidity. There will be some morning clouds on Saturday, but I expect sunshine to return by noon. Lows at night will reach the upper 50s both Friday night and Saturday night. Highs will approach the middle 80s by Sunday afternoon.

Highs return to the 90 degree mark early next week…
