Rain & Storms on Friday… Wednesday Afternoon Forecast Update… 4:30pm #alwx @wvua23

Good Wednesday afternoon! Our local weather feels more like summer this afternoon, with a good dose of sunshine and hot temperatures. As of 4pm, most observations are reporting upper 80s to 90 degrees. With a surface high overhead this afternoon, skies remain clear and will remain clear through tonight.

On Thursday, a southwest to south breeze will pump moisture ahead of an approaching cold front. Clouds will rapidly spread in during the day on Thursday, with a high in the upper 80s.

As the cold front reaches northwest Alabama on Friday, showers and storms will develop and move into the area. Expect periods of rain and thunder, especially Friday afternoon into Friday evening. I do not expect an all day rain event, but keep the umbrella handy. Rain amounts will range from 0.50″ to 1″ with this event. Severe weather is not expected, but some storms may produce gusty winds and intense lightning.

The airmass becomes a little more refreshing on Saturday and Sunday, with upper 70s to low 80s during the afternoon on Saturday, with low humidity. Lows at night will reach the upper 50s both Friday night and Saturday night. Highs will approach the middle 80s by Sunday afternoon.

Highs return to the 90 degree mark early next week…
