11:30PM Wed Night Radar Update… #alwx @wvua23

At 11:30pm on this Wednesday night, the line of strong to severe storms is lined up from Hamilton, AL to Columbus, MS to just west of Meridian, MS. Storms will continue to progress east tonight, with the potential of isolated damaging wind, isolated hail and an isolated spin-up tornado. SPC posted our area under a severe thunderstorm watch and not a tornado watch based off the fact the tornado risk is low and the main risk will be from isolated wind damage and isolated hail.

At 11pm, the Storm Prediction Center has placed all of west and much of central Alabama under a severe thunderstorm watch until 5am Thursday morning. The line of severe storms is about to enter extreme west Alabama as of 11pm, and will continue east through the night.

Between midnight and 5am, areas along and west of I-65 (west of Cullman to Birmigham to Clanton) has a good chance of storms, with a few of those producing damaging winds. An isolated tornado or two will be possible, primarily along HWY 82 (Reform to Tuscaloosa) and points south and areas along and to the west of HWY 5 (west of Centreville, Marion and Selma.) The risk of an isolated tornado is in the red shaded area on the map below. In the yellow shaded area, there is a risk of isolated damaging winds.

The line of storms will push to the east of I-65 around 5am and into Georgia by 8 or 9am.
