Hot Now… Few Storms Saturday PM… Cooler Sunday… Thursday Forecast Update – 4:30pm #alwx @wvua23

Good Thursday afternoon! Our local weather has turned out hot today, with a good supply of sunshine. Most areas warmed well into the upper 80s this afternoon, with a few thermometers reaching 90. Expect clear skies for tonight, with a low in the lower 60s.

Based off the latest model data, it appears that the chance of a few scattered storms for areas north of I-20 is unlikely on Friday. I had a 30% risk of scattered storms for the northern half of the state, but models are now stalling the front too far away to enhance rain chances.

Models are also trending weaker with the next system to arrive on Saturday. The upper air support will be very weak, as the cold front arrives Saturday afternoon and eve. A thin and broken band of showers and storms will pass through the area beginning near the Mississippi State line between noon and 3pm. West Alabama (areas west of I-65) will deal with the quick moving line between 1pm and 7pm. Areas east of I-65 in east Alabama will deal with the line between 5pm and 10pm Saturday. Please understand, the storms will not last for hours in one spot. That’s just the window when storms are possible in your area. The line will be thin and broken when it passes through, so you may only get rain for 15 to 30 minutes before the storms move to your east. Unfortunately, rain amounts are also trending less and less, with most areas getting at or less than 1/4th of an inch.

A-Day in Tuscaloosa on Saturday will likely deal with a quick period of rain and storms during the early to mid afternoon, but again, rain will not last long in one spot and will quickly pass to your east. Temperatures will approach the low 80s in Bryant-Denny Stadium, then falling into the 70s by 5pm. I would take the poncho to be safe, but you will likely not need it for very long…

afsaaaaaaa

Temperatures will turn cooler on Sunday, with a high in the upper 60s. We’ll rebound into the upper 70s on Monday, with 80s back on Tuesday through Thursday.
