Hot Temps Now… Storms on Saturday Afternoon/Eve… Wednesday Forecast Update – 5pm #alwx @wvua23

Good Wednesday afternoon! Most areas remain dry and hot today, but a few small storms have formed this afternoon near I-20 and to the east of I-65. Temperatures will drop into the lower 60s overnight, under a mostly clear sky. The chance of a stray shower or storm will diminish by sunset over east and north Alabama.

We’ll remain hot and dry on Thursday, with most areas in the upper 80s. Plenty of sunshine is expected for Thursday. A weakening cold front will drift into north Alabama Friday afternoon, with scattered storms basically north of I-20. South of I-20, storms are not expected Friday.

A surface low and cold front will approach Alabama on Saturday, with clouds increasing by Saturday morning. Storms become likely by mid afternoon on Saturday and that will carry into the evening hours. Some storms could be strong, but widespread severe weather is unlikely on Saturday. We’ll need to carefully watch trends incase storms manage to become severe. The main risk would be strong gusty winds and hail for storms that become intense. There may be some issues for A-day in Tuscaloosa Saturday afternoon, depending on what time storms arrive.

Cooler air will move in on Sunday, with a mostly cloudy sky. A stray shower is possible on Sunday, but most areas will be dry. Highs will only top out in the upper 60s on Sunday. Temperatures will quickly rebound into the 80s by Tuesday of next week…
