Tornado Watch for Portions of East & Central AL… 2pm Update Wednesday #alwx @wvua23

Current WatchesWarnings.png

At 2pm, SPC has posted a tornado watch for all of east Alabama and portions of central and west Alabama. As the dry line quickly moves east across the area, counties in the watch will be trimmed back over the next few hours. The watch includes Hamilton to Fayette to Tuscaloosa to Brent to Clanton and points east. There are currently no active storms along the dry line at the moment…

At 1:30pm, we’re watching radar trends and satellite trends very carefully, as the dry line fast approaches from the west. The atmosphere is clearly unstable, so there is still a chance a few severe storms could fire up on the dry line as it works eastward. SPC is about to issue a new tornado watch for portions of our area shortly…

One good thing we note is the low level wind shear is much lower this afternoon. Without the backing of the winds at the surface, that tends to lower the tornado risk some.

At this moment, the dry line was lined up from Hamilton to Reform to Meridian. West of that line, severe weather is unlikely. It sure looks like the best chance of getting a few supercell storms to develop along the dry line will be along or east of I-65. Remain alert over the next few hours across all of west, central and east Alabama, but the window for severe weather will be over for areas west of I-65 by 4pm and over for areas east of I-65 by 7pm.
