Showers coming tomorrow! Forecast update… 6:30pm #alwx @wvua 23

7 Day Forecast - Offset Lows - PM.pngA cloudy day outside today. Clouds began increasing this morning as moist air begins to move in. Temperatures nice this afternoon in the 70s across much of the state and expect that warm air to continue throughout the week.

A wet week ahead!

A weakening surface low and upper air trough will move into the region on Saturday. The cold front will stall somewhere across extreme north Alabama, so colder air will not make it into central Alabama this weekend; in-fact, we’ll be pushing 80 degrees on Sunday. Look for a weakening line of showers and storms to move into west Alabama during the midday to early afternoon hours on Saturday. Severe weather is unlikely, but a storm or two may be strong with gusty winds and heavy rain. This batch of showers and storms will continue to push east across the state through the afternoon and evening hours. Small showers will form over east Mississippi and northwest Alabama during the late evening and early overnight hours on Saturday, but these storms should remain rather weak and may remain to the north of I-59. I would keep the umbrella handy midday Saturday through sunrise Sunday morning, given showers and storms are possible at any point during that time-frame. Rain amounts will vary drastically, with some areas getting little to no rain while other spots may get up to an inch where stronger storms develop.

Skies will remain partly to mostly cloudy on Sunday, with a high approaching 80. A stray morning shower is possible on Sunday. Highs will continue to approach 80 on Monday, as most of the day appears dry according to model data. Showers and storms will move into the area Monday evening or Monday night. While some storms could be rather strong, widespread severe weather is unlikely at this time but there is a chance for some hail.

Wednesday is going to be the day to get outside this week with mostly sunny skies and temperatures in the high 70s low 80s possible for some areas. By Thursday your chance for rain will move back in and continue for the start of the weekend.
