Very Warm Days Continue… Storms on Saturday… Thursday Update – 5:30pm #alwx @wvua23

Good Thursday afternoon! Our local weather turned out very nice this afternoon, with temperatures in west Alabama reaching 80 degrees, and low 70s in east Alabama. Dry air has mixed into our local area, really reducing the cloud cover again today. Models have struggled with the clouds both yesterday and today. As moisture increases on Friday and into Saturday, clouds will likely increase.

Look for nice conditions tonight, with a low dropping into the middle 50s. After a nice and rather cool start to Friday, temperatures will easily reach the upper 70s. Some spots may touch 80 like today, but I do expect a few clouds around from time to time. Friday should be a partly cloudy day.

A weakening surface low and upper air trough will move into the region on Saturday. The cold front will stall somewhere across extreme north Alabama, so colder air will not make it into central Alabama this weekend; in-fact, we’ll be pushing 80 degrees on Sunday. Look for a weakening line of showers and storms to move into west Alabama during the midday to early afternoon hours on Saturday. Severe weather is unlikely, but a storm or two may be strong with gusty winds and heavy rain. This batch of showers and storms will continue to push east across the state through the afternoon and evening hours. There is a chance additional storms form over east Mississippi and northwest Alabama during the late evening and early overnight hours on Saturday, but these storms should remain rather weak and may remain to the north of I-59. I would keep the umbrella handy midday Saturday through sunrise Sunday morning, given showers and storms are possible at any point during that time-frame. Rain amounts will vary drastically, with some areas getting little to no rain while other spots may get up to an inch where stronger storms develop.

Skies will remain partly to mostly cloudy on Sunday, with a high approaching 80. A stray morning shower is possible on Sunday. Highs will continue to approach 80 on Monday, as most of the day appears dry according to model data. Showers and storms will move into the area Monday evening or Monday night. While some storms could be rather strong, widespread severe weather is unlikely at this time. Highs will drop back into the middle 70s on Tuesday and Wednesday.
