Good Wednesday afternoon! Our local weather has turned out very nice for central Alabama, with more sunshine than expected. Dry air has mixed in and quickly eroded the cloud deck across north Alabama this morning. Temperatures are warmer over south Alabama, with widespread low 80s. North Alabama has remained in the 60s for highs, north of the surface boundary. Temperatures tonight will drop into the lower 50s, with a partly cloudy sky.
Models continue to suggest a cool air wedge will develop over east Alabama Thursday (east of Cullman, Birmingham and Cullman) where highs will top out in the 60s. West Alabama will easily reach the lower to middle 70s on Thursday. By Friday, the east Alabama cooler air will mix out, as temperatures area-wide will warm into the middle 70s. Skies will remain partly to mostly cloudy at times both Thursday and Friday.
A weakening surface low and upper air trough will approach our area on Saturday. Expect a batch of showers and storms to move into west Alabama around lunch on Saturday, with showers and storms weakening as they progress eastward across the area Saturday evening into Saturday night. Models suggest a risk of a few strong storms, but the risk of widespread severe weather is unlikely. We’ll need to watch it, but I’m not convinced we deal with a risk of severe storms on Saturday. Temperatures will remain mild over the weekend, with highs in the middle to upper 70s.
Another cluster of storms will arrive sometime Monday evening into early Tuesday. Severe weather is unlikely with that setup, but some storms may produce gusty winds and heavy rain. Highs will remain in the 70s…
