Hot Now… Seasonal & Mostly Cloudy Ahead… Tuesday Forecast Update 4:15pm #alwx @wvua23

7 Day Forecast - Offset Lows - PM.png

Good Tuesday afternoon! It is incredibly hot this afternoon, as we’re on the eastern edge of a strong upper air ridge. An MCS or an organized cluster of severe storms over Tennessee this afternoon is moving east southeast along the edge of the ridge, but the storms will remain well northeast of central Alabama this evening. Our local weather will remain dry and very mild this evening, with temperatures gradually falling into the 60s by 10pm and upper 50s by sunrise tomorrow.

As a weak surface cold front slips in from the north, expect clouds to increase tonight and on Wednesday. Rain is not expected with this boundary as it stalls across west Alabama and central Alabama Wednesday and Thursday. I expect a mostly cloudy sky for Wednesday through Friday, with the surface front stalled over the area, but rain is unlikely. Highs will dip back into the low 70s on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Areas over east Alabama (east of Cullman, Birmingham, & Clanton) could actually stay in the 50s all day on Thursday, as a cool air wedge sets up over east Alabama and Georgia. We should still reach 70 for areas west of I-65 on Thursday.

A weakening surface low and front will approach the area on Saturday. Models have been backing off on the amount of rain and storms for our area, but it still appears there is a fair chance of a few showers and storms Saturday afternoon and Saturday evening, with a few lingering showers on Sunday. The front will actually stall north of Alabama on Sunday, so cold air will never make it to our area. We’ll remain in the middle 70s on Sunday, with upper 70s on Monday. With a very humid airmass nearby and a weak surface front stalled just north of the state, it appears a few showers will remain possible for the northern half of the state early next week.
