Very Cold Now… Warmer Air Ahead… Tuesday Afternoon Update – 5:20pm #alwx @wvua23

7 Day Forecast - Offset Lows - PM.png

Good Tuesday afternoon! Our local weather has been very cold today, with cloudy skies and a chilly northwest wind. A few snow flurries have been reported over north Alabama, but there are no issues from that… Temperatures today only topped out in the lower to middle 40s!

Temperatures will fall into the upper 20s overnight, as skies gradually become clear. With a light wind overnight, widespread frost is not especially likely tonight. Skies will become clear sometime around midnight tonight, with full sunshine expected on Wednesday. Despite the sunshine on Wednesday, we’ll only top out in the upper 40s to near 50.

A surface high will move right over the area Wednesday night into Thursday morning, allowing winds to go calm and skies to remain clear. This will set the stage for a moderate to heavy frost Thursday morning across the area. Temperatures will start off Thursday morning generally in the middle to upper 20s. We’ll warm into the upper 50s Thursday afternoon.

By Friday, a south wind will bring moisture and warmer air northward off the Gulf. I expect some areas to touch 70 on Friday over west and south Alabama, with upper 60s for the rest of north and central Alabama. A few showers will be possible on Saturday, but most areas will not get rain and showers that develop will be short lived and small.

A slightly cooler airmass will move in on Sunday, followed by a nice warming trend early next week.
